BRIEFLY 4 CRYPTS DAMAGED IN DURING BREAK-IN.


KAGEL CANYON - Four crypts at the Glenhaven Memorial Park received $400 in damages when vandals apparently attempted to break into the the wall vaults, sheriff's deputies said Thursday.

Apparently the vandal or vandals tried to pull two crypts out sometime between Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, said Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County sheriff's Deputy Steven Toly. The vandals only dismantled the face plates because an inch of concrete acted as a buffer to the crypts.

Deputies believe the break-in was a random act of vandalism, unrelated to a hate crime. The crypts are located in a nondenominational non·de·nom·i·na·tion·al

3-year-old boy dies trying to cross road

PEARBLOSSOM - A 3-year-old boy died after being hit by a car as he was trying to cross Pearblossom Highway on Thursday, the California Highway Patrol highway patrol

The boy was apparently trying to follow his grandfather from a parked big rig Big Rig was a punk band from the San Francisco Bay Area fronted by singer/songwriter Jesse Michaels. Michaels performed with the group after the break up of his previous project, Operation Ivy, and before forming the band Common Rider.  to the Town and Country Market in the 13000 block of Pearblossom Highway when he darted into traffic at about 7:19 p.m.

Los Angeles County firefighter/paramedic Jeff Britton said the man had told the boy to stay but ``the child bolted into traffic.''

Britton said the driver had no time to react.

Victim of mugging dies of his injuries

WINNETKA - A 25-year-old Van Nuys man, knocked to the street Sunday during an attack by two male suspects and then hit by a passing vehicle, died Thursday at Northridge Hospital Medical Center Northridge Hospital Medical Center is a hospital in the Northridge town of Los Angeles, California, USA. Ignacio Cruz was beaten and knocked into the street unconscious at Roscoe Boulevard and Winnetka Avenue on Sunday in an apparent robbery attempt. The suspects went through his pockets and fled on foot westbound on Arminta Street.

He was then hit by a car. The driver, who called 911, was questioned and released. No description of the suspects was available.

 officers have joined a lawsuit alleging LAPD brass retaliated and discriminated against them for reporting misconduct.

The officers are asking a federal court to declare their claim a class- action lawsuit and a crowd of officers is expected in court for a status hearing today.

The plaintiffs' attorney, Bradley C. Gage, said officers have been retaliated against for blowing the whistle on other personnel for planting drugs, beating people and reporting other wrongdoings.

Suspect in slaying pleads not guilty

A 27-year-old man pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges that he murdered a jewelry store owner during a robbery last month in Northridge.

Gaik Papazyan is charged with murder and a special circumstance allegation of murder during a robbery, which makes him eligible for the death penalty. He also is charged with one count of second-degree robbery.

He is being held without bail and is due back in San Fernando Superior Court on Feb. 15, when a preliminary hearing date is scheduled to be set.
