SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - The Jewish Children's Bookfest, a celebration of Jewish children's authors, illustrators and literature, is scheduled today, rain or shine, and organizers expecting 4,000 people to turn out.

Sponsored by Mount Sinai Memorial Parks and the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , the free event features literature-related entertainment and activities, ranging from celebrity readings to workshops on puppet-making to book vendors to food.

A $1 donation will be made to Simi Valley firefighters for every person who attends, organizers said.

The bookfest is from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today at the Triangle at Mount Sinai Memorial Park, 6150 Mount Sinai Drive, Simi Valley.

Acting workshop to assist seniors

MOORPARK - The Moorpark Active Adult Center hosts ``Acting for Commercials,'' a free two-part workshop for seniors covering camera angles and theories of framing.

The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday and on Nov. 24. The center is located at 799 Moorpark Ave., Moorpark. For more information or to make a reservation call (805) 517-6261.

Free screenings at adult center

MOORPARK - Free blood pressure and blood sugar testing will be offered at the Moorpark Active Adult Center on the third Monday of the month, beginning this Monday. Testing will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis from 11 a.m. to noon. A licensed vocational nurse licensed vocational nurse

Firefighter day planned at library

SIMI VALLEY - Firefighter Appreciation Day has been set for Nov. 23, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Coordinates:

Residents can meet hundreds of local firefighters, sign a ``thank-you wall'' - pieces of which will be distributed to fire departments in the region, view a hook and ladder Hook and ladder can refer to:

 fire engine, a Ventura County sheriff's helicopter, and learn about fire safety.

The outside activities, which run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., are free, while $5 general admission entrance applies to those entering the museum. Firefighters and their family receive free admission to the museum all day.
