Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Mayor Cameron Smyth Cameron Smyth is a Republican who has represented Califoria's 38th Assembly district since December of 2006. He succeeded Keith Richman who was term limited.

Prior to being elected to the state legislature, Assemblyman Smyth served on the Santa Clarita City Council, where he
 will be honorary chairman of the event.

The walk will begin at 7 a.m. Each participant who raises $100 in sponsorships will receive a complimentary pass to Magic Mountain. In addition to the walk, participants can enjoy an activity zone for children, clowns, games, face painting, a silent auction, a raffle and booths for food and health information.

Walkers to watch for migrating birds

SANTA CLARITA - A bird-spotting walk along the Santa Clara River Santa Clara River may refer to:
  • Santa Clara River (California), a river in Southern California, United States.
  • Santa Clara River (Utah), a river in Utah, United States
  • Carmen River, a river in Mexico that is sometimes called the Santa Clara River
 will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in observance of International Migratory Bird Day.

Sponsored by Audubon California and the San Fernando Audubon Society, the walk will be open to the public.

Those interested in participating should meet in the Kmart parking lot on Valencia Boulevard and Bouquet Canyon Road. The walk along the river will end at Central Park, where bird sightings will be discussed during an informal picnic. Walkers should bring their own lunches.

This is the time of year when birds are migrating north. Experienced birders will be along on the walk to point out birds in the area, and they will provide information about protecting and attracting birds to local neighborhoods.

Those who cannot join the walk can find information on migratory birds on Web sites recommended by the Audubon Society: www.partnersinflight.org or www.birds.fws.gov/.imbd.
