 - Two men accused of fatally shooting a Northridge jewelry store owner during a robbery last December must stand trial, a judge ruled Friday.

San Fernando Superior Court Judge John C. Gunn found sufficient evidence to try Artem Sansonyan, 39, of Glendale, and Gaik Papazyan, 28, of Phoenix, on murder charges.

Store owner fined for selling to kids

The operator of At Express Liquor store on Sepulveda Boulevard was sentenced Friday to 300 hours on a Caltrans or graffiti removal work crew and ordered to pay $10,800 in fines and costs for selling alcohol to minors, authorities said.

A store clerk was also sentenced to 300 hours on a work crew and ordered to pay $2,700 in fines and costs.

Local man named to lottery panel

CALABASAS - Gov. Gray Davis appointed broadcasting executive Michael Brockman, 62, of Calabasas to the state Lottery A game of chance operated by a state government.

Generally a lottery offers a person the chance to win a prize in exchange for something of lesser value. Most lotteries offer a large cash prize, and the chance to win the cash prize is typically available for one dollar.
 Commission, whose members receive no salary and do not require Senate confirmation, the Governor's Office announced Friday.

Davis hires 180 more firefighters

SACRAMENTO - Gov. Gray Davis is ordering new equipment and hiring 180 firefighters to help battle what could be one of the worst wildfire seasons in decades, authorities said.

The equipment includes 27 new fire engines, four retrofitted air tankers and an airplane with an infrared camera to detect small wildfires and map large fires in smoky conditions.
