BRIEFLY 2 HELD IN SHOOTING AT FILLING STATION.


An argument at an Arleta filling station led to a shooting that left two people wounded and two others in custody Friday night, police said.

The shooting at Laurel Canyon Boulevard Laurel Canyon Boulevard is a major street in the city of Los Angeles, California. It starts off at Polk Street in Sylmar in the northern San Fernando Valley near the junction of the San Diego (Interstate 405) and the Golden State Freeways (Interstate 5).  and Osbourne Street occurred about 7:40 p.m., said Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police Sgt. Suspect held in hit-and-run crash

NORTH HILLS - A hit-and-run suspect was arrested Friday after a collision caused a motorcyclist to lose his leg, police said.

The crash occurred about 9 p.m. at the intersection of Parthenia Street and Hayvenhurst Avenue, according to according to

Gov. Gray Davis called Friday for an investigation into the growing labor dispute between the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the bus drivers' union, the United Transportation Union.

The action is the first step in setting a cooling off period between the two sides, which would allow negotiations to continue without threat of a walkout by drivers or lockout lockout, intentional closing up of a company, factory, or shop by an employer to prevent employees from working during a strike or labor dispute. The term lockout  by the MTA.

The inquiry will be undertaken by a three-member board appointed by the governor and report back their findings by July 19.

Hahn, who formed his fund-raising committee in mid-April, reported reaching the $200,000 mark as of June 30 after a series of private fund- raisers around the city.

No other candidate has announced plans to challenge Hahn in his bid for a second term.

Snowy plovers found in Ventura

OXNARD - A nest of the threatened Western snowy plower was discovered on a Ventura County beach where another nest was found two weeks earlier.

The nest was found Wednesday on Hollywood Beach by a woman who lives nearby and whose husband and son discovered the first nest. Jayne Ziv said she happened upon the new nest while out for a walk.

As part of his Eagle Scout project, her 14-year-old son Zak posted signs about the birds after he found the first nest. He also found volunteers to act as docents to make sure people and their dogs don't hurt the birds.

Father, son guilty in wire fraud scam

A father and son pleaded guilty to federal charges of wire fraud and money laundering The process of taking the proceeds of criminal activity and making them appear legal.

 in a scam in which $130 million was bilked from more than 300 people who believed their money was being invested in the foreign currency market.

Moshe Leichner, 54, of Los Angeles, and his 31-year-old son Zvi, of Bell Canyon, entered their pleas Thursday before U.S. District Judge John Walter, who set sentencing for April 12. Both men face up to 20 years in prison.

Under a plea agreement disclosed last month, the father and son agreed to turn over several luxury homes and cars, as well as money held in overseas accounts, said Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Kramer.

The two men also agreed that a federal judgment of $130 million would be issued against them.
