BRIEFLY : ZONTA TO RECOGNIZE OUTSTANDING WOMEN.


BURBANK - The local Zonta Club is taking applications for its 10th annual Young Woman in Public Affairs Those public information, command information, and community relations activities directed toward both the external and internal publics with interest in the Department of Defense. Also called PA. See also command information; community relations; public information.  Award.

The competition aims to encourage more female students in high schools and community colleges to pursue careers and leadership positions in public affairs, public policy and community organizations.

The local winner will receive $200 and advance to the district competition. The international award is $1,000.

Women secondary school students 21 or younger are eligible to apply. Applications are available at all the high schools in Burbank. The deadline is Jan. 15.

Applications are also available by writing the Zonta Club of Burbank Area, P.O. Box 4157, Burbank, 91503, or calling (818) 248-2380.

Local relief groups to get 100 turkeys

GLENDALE - State Assemblyman Scott Wildman Scott Wildman was a California State Assemblyman from 1996 until 2000. That year, he lost a State Senate primary to Dr. Jack Scott, an Assemblyman from a neighboring district. Wildman received 46.7% of the vote. , D-Glendale, and Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Water Co. officials will distribute 100 turkeys to four local community relief agencies Friday.

The turkeys will be delivered between 1 to 2 p.m. to the Adult Recreation Center in Glendale, 201 E. Colorado Blvd.

Book drive to help shelter for women

BURBANK - The Retired and Seniors Volunteer Program will co-host a children's book drive Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Burbank IKEA IKEA Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd (Swedish home furnishings retailer founder's initials and location)  store.

The store's drive will benefit children at the YWCA YWCA
