Man shot in garage returns to home

A day after he was shot in the stomach by a masked man in the Los Angeles Unified School District's parking garage, administrator Jim Samples was discharged from the hospital Tuesday, officials said.

``He's doing really well, he's going home,'' said Adelaide de la Cerda, spokeswoman for Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center.

Police said they had not determined why Samples, director of maintenance and operations, was shot. And despite an intensive search, the assailant remained at large Tuesday, said Los Angeles police Officer Eduardo Funes.

About 11:30 a.m. Monday, Samples had finished a meeting in the district offices and was heading for his car. The man called out Samples' first and last name, then shot him in the stomach, police said.

Samples was able to drive out of the garage into the exterior parking lot and call for help.
