 for girls ages 5-18.

Registration is $41 and an additional $25 for girls who do not have a uniform from a previous season.

Teams are divided into groups: ages 5-7, which is coed, ages 8-10, ages 11-12, ages 13-14 and ages 15-18. On Jan. 15 a mandatory team draft will be held.

Chess club to hold local tournament

LANCASTER - Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties.  Chess Club will hold its first tournament from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 20 and 21 in the college cafeteria.

Entry fee is $8 until Friday and $10 the day of the tournament. There will be six rounds, three per day. Players get to play all six rounds even if they lose. Players who have chessboards and chess clocks are encouraged to bring them.

The tournament welcomes all players from novice to master, and chess lessons are available for beginners. Registration begins at 9 a.m. the day of the tournament.

Public forum today will discuss forests

VENTURA - The U.S. Forest Service will hold a public meeting from 9 a.m. to noon today in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  for feedback on a proposed forest planning rule that includes goals for forest use.

The town hall meeting, one of several occurring across the nation, will discuss goals that apply to the Los Padres, Angeles, Cleveland and San Bernandino forests in Southern California.

The meeting is scheduled at the Los Angeles River The Los Angeles River is an intermittent river flowing through Los Angeles County, California, from Canoga Park in the west end of the San Fernando Valley, 51 miles (82 km) southeast to its mouth in Long Beach.  Center, 570 W. Ave. 26.
