BRIEFLY : WOMAN WOUNDED, MAN SHOT TO DEATH.

ARLETA - A man apparently involved in a domestic dispute Sunday afternoon shot and critically wounded a woman, then shot himself and later died, police said.

Police responding to a shots-fired call in the 13800 block of Wingo Street at 12:20 p.m. heard a shot inside the house when they arrived. After requesting backup, the officers entered the house and found a woman critically wounded and a man with what they believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Both were taken to area hospitals. The woman was undergoing surgery Sunday afternoon. The man died.

``I'm not saying it won't get hot again. We'll see some more days in the 90s and even the 100s. But I don't think it will last for a week,'' Rockwell said.

It was the third time in about a month that a terminal at the airport was evacuated due to a possible weapon carried in luggage.

The owner of the bag was not located, said airport police Sgt. Daniel Vaughn.

Security staff at the X-ray machine noticed the image Sunday afternoon and called police, but the woman picked up the bag and left before a security supervisor arrived, Vaughn said.

Police searched the crowd but did not find her.

Terminal 7, which held about 700 people, was searched for about 45 minutes. The search yielded 35 pounds of marijuana, but it was not clear who put the marijuana in the coin-operated locker or when it was placed there.
