A Littlerock woman who ran down an 8-year-old girl with her car after a quarrel with the child's mother was found guilty Wednesday of second-degree murder by a Van Nuys jury.

Doreen Gutierrez, 35, ran down her roommate's daughter Dec. 19 after the woman refused a ride home from a party in Palmdale, saying Gutierrez was too drunk to drive, prosecutors said.

CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  teacher wins case on age bias

A federal civil rights agency in San Francisco has settled an age discrimination lawsuit against the California State University system California State University System, coordinating agency established in 1960 by the merger of individual California state colleges, now consisting of 23 campuses.  for $90,000 in back pay to a Northridge teacher who was forced to retire at 70.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced the agreement Wednesday in a 1997 case that challenged former age limits in CSU's early retirement program.

Sol Buchalter, former Finance Department chairman at CSUN, taught from 1957 and sued after he was required to leave in 1995. Besides the $90,000, he will be allowed to resume teaching part-time under rules that have since been changed, officials said. The agreement, approved by a federal magistrate, prohibits the university from enforcing age limits in any future early retirement program.

Moorpark shooting suspect in custody

MOORPARK - One man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and another was being questioned by police Wednesday after an afternoon shooting in a quiet residential neighborhood near Moorpark College.

``We've got a suspect in custody.
