Before the dinner, she will visit with children from the YMCA's Junior Lakers and Shooting Stars basketball programs.

The Antelope Valley YMCA is trying to raise $40,000 to provide financial assistance to children who otherwise would be unable to participate in programs and activities. Funds also have been earmarked for a new after-school program at Hillview Middle School Hillview Middle School is a public middle school in Menlo Park, California, part of the Menlo Park City School District. It is notable as having been named a California Distinguished School seven times. .

Girls' soccer tryouts slated for Palmdale

PALMDALE - The Palmdale Youth Soccer Club will host tryouts for girls under 11 and under 13 from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Pelona Vista Park, on Tierra Subida Road north of Avenue S.

The under-11 team is for girls born after Aug. 1, 1988. The under-13 team is for girls born after Aug. 1, 1986.
