Peter Barton Wilson (born August 23, 1933) is an American Republican politician from California. Wilson served as the thirty-sixth Governor of California (1991–1999), the culmination of more than three decades in the public arena that
 has ended his seven-month standoff with Washington, agreeing to accept $42 million for California schools - as long as the federal government doesn't dictate how the Goals 2000 money is spent or interfere with his own, controversial school plans, officials said Sunday.

The decision was laid out in a letter written Friday to U.S. Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley, said Wilson spokesman Sean Walsh Sean Patrick Walsh is a producer on A Current Affair.

He was previously a researcher on Today Tonight. He has also worked as a reporter for KMTR in Oregon, and as a News Assistant/Runner during the 2000 Summer Olympics for NBC Nightly News.
