Teen employment agency wins grant

THOUSAND OAKS Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  - The Conejo Youth Employment Service recently received a $23,830 grant from the Ventura County probation agency to develop a job and counseling program in the Conejo Creek neighborhood, officials announced Wednesday.

With the grant, the nonprofit job-development and referral service will help Conejo Creek area students, ages 14 through 18, find jobs, said Dave Morgan Dave Morgan (born August 7, 1944 in Cranmore, Somerset[1]) is a British former racing driver from England. He participated in one Formula One World Championship grand prix, the 1975 British Grand Prix in which, like several others, he crashed during a storm in the , executive director. He said the Conejo organization has been serving teens in the area for more than 30 years.

The grant was secured with the help of Ventura County Supervisor Frank Schillo, Morgan said.

Ventura's first, only woman mayor dies

VENTURA - Flags are being flown at half-staff through Friday to honor former Ventura Mayor Harriet Henson, who died earlier this week.

Henson, the city's only female mayor, was a member of the Ventura City Council from 1976 to 1984 and mayor in 1978-82.

She died Aug. 29 after battling pneumonia. She was 63.

The cities that VCSD serves are Camarillo, Fillmore, Moorpark, Ojai, and Thousand Oaks.  has opened a new resource center with computers, meeting rooms and other facilities for the community at a landmark building in Saticoy.

Deputies working in the area also will use the center as a satellite office for interviews and other work.
