BRIEFLY : VENTURA JOBLESS RATE CONTINUES TO DROP.


VENTURA - The Ventura County unemployment rate continued to drop to an estimated 4.5 percent during October, with the largest job increase reported in the agriculture industry.

 the state Employment Development Department, total employment throughout the county rose by an estimated 700 jobs, with a 1,500-job increase in farmwork balanced by an 800-job loss in the nonfarm sector.

The jobless rate has dropped over the past two months, with 5.5 percent unemployment reported in August and 5.2 percent in September.

Between October 1998 and October 1999, the county saw an increase of a total of 8,400 jobs, with 7,700 in the nonfarm industries, officials said.

Conejo's schools to get time capsules

THOUSAND OAKS - Developer Caruso Affiliated Holdings is donating 40 time capsules from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation's Millennium Time Capsule program to local schools to help students grasp the concept of the millennium.

The time capsules, which sell for $250 each, are to be filled, then stored for 100 years at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Coordinates:

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Center for Public Affairs
 and Museum in Simi Valley. In 2100, the library plans to host a celebration for their opening.

The capsules are to be presented Monday to officials at the Conejo Valley Unified School District Conejo Valley Unified School District or CVUSD is a school district in Ventura County. It serves Thousand Oaks, California and its subsections Newbury Park and Westlake Village. .

Public forum today will discuss forests

VENTURA - The U.S. Forest Service will hold a public meeting from 9 a.m. to noon today in Los Angeles for feedback on a proposed forest planning rule that includes goals for forest use.

The town hall meeting, one of several occurring across the nation, will discuss goals that apply to the Los Padres, Angeles, Cleveland and San Bernardino forests in Southern California.
