As he prepares to cap his 32-year career, Councilman Marvin Braude Marvin Braude (August 11, 1920—December 7, 2005)served as Los Angeles City Councilman for the 11th district from 1965 to 1997. At various times Mr. Braude (pronounced BROW-dee) served as chair of the Finance and Revenue Committee, the Environmental Quality and Waste  received another honor Wednesday with the Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  deciding to name a new Van Nuys civic center after him.

Airport land trial to begin next year

The Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority's eminent domain eminent domain, the right of a government to force the owner of private property sell it if it is needed for a public use. The right is based on the doctrine that a sovereign state has dominion over all lands and buildings within its borders, which has its origins in  lawsuit against Lockheed Corp. will go to trial in two parts, starting in March, a judge ruled Wednesday.

The Airport Authority filed the land acquisition lawsuit last year, seeking 130 acres of Lockheed property for an airport passenger terminal.

FBI awards LAPD's Kroeker for service

Los Police Department Deputy Chief Mark Kroeker and a Los Angeles-based FBI agent were among 35 people honored by the FBI on Wednesday in Washington, D.C.

Awards were to be presented by Federal Bureau of Investigation Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), division of the U.S. Dept. of Justice charged with investigating all violations of federal laws except those assigned to some other federal agency.  Director Louis J. Freeh to Kroeker and to James P. Myers, a supervisory special agent of the FBI's Los Angeles office, said FBI spokeswoman Laura Bosley.

Kroeker will receive the Director's Award for Exceptional Public Service.

Myers will receive the Director's Award for Excellence in Investigation.

Palmdale robbery suspect, wife held

PALMDALE - A 24-year-old Palmdale man suspected of robbing an area bank and his wife were taken into custody Wednesday, authorities said.

William Artell Miles Jr. and his wife Charmika Alace Miles, 20, both of Palmdale, were arrested outside of Miles' mother's home in the 3400 block of Santa Barbara Court.

Miles is wanted on suspicion of committing a March 25 robbery at a Great Western bank inside a Lucky Supermarket at 2535 E. Ave. S in Palmdale.

His wife is suspected of attempting a robbery at the same bank branch two days later.

Riordan to attend meeting of mayors

Mayor Richard Riordan is heading off to New York New York, state, United States
