WOODLAND HILLS - Steven Lew, vice president of Universal Studios, was elected chairman of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association on Friday at the organization's annual meeting.

He will serve a two-year term beginning Jan. 1.

He succeeds Marvin Selter, chairman of the board of National Staff Network.

Suspected shooter arrested by SWAT

 George Christie, 36, both of Panorama City, were arrested around 3 a.m. on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon Assault with a Deadly Weapon is the term used to describe the act of threatening to harm one or more people by using a weapon (usually a firearm). Police believe Christie is the driver whose car collided with another vehicle at Chase Street and Lennox Avenue in Panorama City on Tuesday, and who then got out and fired several rounds at another driver, Lee said.

A stray bullet grazed a pedestrian. The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured. After the collision, the gunman fled over a backyard fence and shot one dog to death and wounded another which later had to be euthanized, authorities said.

Both were being held at the Van Nuys jail. Ayers was being held in lieu of $30,000 bail, and Christie without bail.

STUDIO CITY - A makeshift methamphetamine lab was discovered and four people were arrested Thursday night after two patrol officers drove by a Studio City hotel and smelled a strong chemical odor, police said.

Jedetiah Onderweizer, 31, of Sunland; Melody Steinke, 23, of Van Nuys; Nancy Shell, 42, of Van Nuys; and Salvador DeLeon, 32, of Los Angeles were arrested around 11 p.m. at the El Royal Hotel, 11117 Ventura Blvd., and booked on suspicion of manufacturing and possessing a controlled substance controlled substance n. a drug which has been declared by federal or state law to be illegal for sale or use, but may be dispensed under a physician's prescription. , said LAPD Officer Jason Lee, department spokesman.

Probe of detective in sex case widens

LAPD officials said Friday that they are interviewing a fourth potential sexual abuse victim as part of an investigation into a Medal of Valor-winning detective who was arrested last month on suspicion of sexual battery.

Police Lt. Tony Alba declined to release details about a possible fourth victim but said the investigation of North Hollywood Detective Earl Valladares is continuing.

Valladares, 51, was arrested Oct. 29 on suspicion of sexual battery against a 32-year-old woman after Valladares allegedly went to her home saying he was investigating a domestic violence complaint she had filed against her boyfriend.

Man who shot actor gets 41-to-life term

MALIBU - A driver who chased down and shot ``Step by Step'' actor Brandon Call last year was sentenced Friday to 41 years to life in prison.

Tommy Lewis, 20, could have received up to two life terms for his conviction on attempted murder and other charges stemming from the Sept. 3, 1996, attack.
