High-speed chase follows foiled heist

A security guard foiled a burglary in Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  on Wednesday, prompting the fleeing suspect to lead police on a high-speed chase to his home in Hollywood. The suspect barricaded himself but later surrendered, officials said.

Suspects arrested in armed robbery

WOODLAND HILLS - Police arrested two armed robbery suspects who held up a restaurant in the 21000 block of Victory Boulevard and then fled Wednesday, authorities said.

A Los Angeles Police Department helicopter crew later recovered a bag of money and a handgun discarded by the men, who held up the restaurant at 11:30 a.m., said Sgt. Dan Mastro of the LAPD's West Valley Division.

1 killed, 1 injured when car hits tree

VAN NUYS - A 16-year-old boy was killed and another person was critically injured Wednesday night when the car they were in hit a tree, authorities said.

The crash occurred in the 13700 block of Chandler Drive, near Woodman Avenue, at 9:55 p.m., said Officer Norman Nagengast of the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Division.
