Board changes speaker rules

The Los Angeles Board of Education voted Monday to change its rules governing how far in advance people can sign up to speak before the board.

Speakers who wish to speak about issues that are not on the board agenda for the day can now sign up to speak only two weeks in advance of a public meeting.

Rich Mason, the district's chief legal counsel, said the change is in response to public complaints that regular public speakers will sign up to speak at every public meeting for months in advance.
