BRIEFLY : TRIAL DATE POSTPONED IN TEEN STRANGULATION.

The October trial of an Ojai man accused of strangling a teen-age girl during an attempted rape has been postponed until January.

Defense attorney Jim Farley said Wednesday that he needed more time to sift through prosecution documents in preparation for the trial of David Ramiro Alvarez, who is charged in the December slaying of 14-year-old Kali Manley of Oak View.

Authorities say Alvarez and a friend met Kali on Dec. 19, and the trio went to Alvarez's mobile home to drink wine coolers. Alvarez's friend told investigators that the defendant said he and Kali were going into a bedroom to have sex. That was the last time the girl was seen alive.

The community launched a search after Kali failed to return home. A week later, on Dec. 26, Alvarez led searchers to her nude body in a ravine north of Ojai.
