BRIEFLY : TAFT PUPILS ARRESTED IN HOME INVASION.


WOODLAND HILLS - Two students were arrested at Taft High School on Friday for their suspected role in a Feb. 19 home-invasion robbery in Canoga Park, officials said.

The two 17-year-old girls, who were not identified because of their age, and four other suspects allegedly burst into the apartment of 46-year-old Ezzat Fahem and robbed him of $4,000 worth of stereo and other equipment, said Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police Detective Greg Derousseau of the West Valley Division.

The two 17-year-olds were booked into Sylmar Juvenile Hall on suspicion of robbery, he said.

Four adults have already been arrested and are being prosecuted for committing a home-invasion robbery in concert, he said.

Tow-truck operator killed on freeway

AGOURA HILLS - A tow-truck driver was killed early Friday morning when he lost control of his vehicle, hit a mud embankment and crashed, landing upside down on the freeway shoulder, officials said.

The male victim was identified as Pat Weddel, 26, of Port Hueneme, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office.

The crash occurred at 3:35 a.m. on the westbound Ventura Freeway, near Chesebro Road, said California Highway Patrol Officer Dorian Simpson. The crash involved only Weddel's vehicle.

Colleges announce possible layoffs

Lee pleads not guilty to abusing wife, son

MALIBU - Rocker Tommy Lee pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of abusing his wife, actress Pamela Anderson Lee, and their baby son.

A judge reluctantly cut Lee's $1 million bail in half, despite a plea relayed through an attorney who said Pamela Lee was fearful. The Motley Crue drummer was soon released and left with his lawyer.

Lee is on probation after pleading no contest to attacking a photographer in 1996. He also pleaded innocent earlier this month in Phoenix to misdemeanor assault for allegedly attacking a concert guard and was supposed to have been in court there Friday.
