BRIEFLY : TAFT HIGH STUDENT STABBED WITH PEN.


WOODLAND HILLS - A 16-year-old freshman student received minor injuries when he was stabbed with a pen Monday by a 15-year-old ninth-grade student in what was supposedly a fight over a female classmate at Taft High School, police said.

The teen-age boys began fighting about 12:30 p.m. during lunch period. In the fight, the 15-year-old boy pulled out his pen and stabbed the 16-year-old boy on the side of his body, said Los Angeles police Detective Bud Mehringer.

Their identities were not disclosed because of their ages.

The 16-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital where his centimeter-deep wound was cleansed and bandaged. The other boy received physical bruises in the fight. Both were taken into police custody Monday afternoon.

Man's lung collapses on flight from N.Y.

A North Hollywood man who was a passenger on an airplane suffered a collapsed lung, and the Boeing 747 was diverted Monday to Port Columbus International Airport Coordinates:

Injured firefighter taken off ventilator

Glendale Firefighter William Jensen, who was caught in the Calabasas Fire, was breathing on his own but remained in critical condition Monday as he faced a fourth surgery, the hospital said.

Jensen, 52, was removed from a ventilator Sunday afternoon.

Ethics Commission open position filled

Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  President John Ferraro has appointed Los Angeles County Bar Association executive director Richard Walch to the city Ethics Commission to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of founding commissioner Treesa Drury.

``The gal said he had a handgun and (she) said, `Don't fire that.' Then he fired one round into his chest,'' Reidy said. ``He was known to the office. He had some kind of disagreement with the staff there over disability.''

In a statement, Lantos said Francis was a former Marine ``who served during the Vietnam era'' and may have been suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome. He came to the office ``to work with a member of my staff on a Veterans Affairs matter,'' Lantos said.
