SYLMAR - Two men died after they were shot on a Sylmar street Sunday, police reported.

At 3:26 a.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department's Foothill Division came to the 13300 block of Almetz Street after someone reported shots fired in the area.

The police found Nick Frontuto, 20, of Sylmar dead from a gunshot wound in the upper torso.

A second victim, Victor Rosa, 18, of Sun Valley, also suffered a gunshot wound to his upper torso and was transported by ambulance to Holy Cross Hospital where he died, officials said.

``There are no suspects, and the motive for the homicides is unknown at this time,'' said police Lt. Joe Hiltner.

Multiple temblors hit Mammoth Lakes

MAMMOTH LAKES - A swarm of earthquakes - the largest with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 - shook the Mammoth Lakes area Sunday afternoon but no damage or injuries were reported, authorities said.

More than 40 temblors of magnitude 2.0 or above rattled the quake-prone mountain area Sunday, but only three measured more than 3.0, according to figures from the U.S. Geological Survey's Internet site.

Gunman found dead after police standoff 

ANAHEIM - A gunman who holed up in an Anaheim motel room Sunday and kept police at bay for more than 14 hours was found dead when officers entered the room Sunday evening, an Anaheim police spokesman said.

The drama began about 6:30 a.m. when the suspect shot and critically wounded a convenience store clerk in a parking lot near the intersection of South Beach Boulevard and Orange Avenue, said Anaheim police Sgt. Joe Vargas.

The clerk, whose name was not released, was on a break from his job when he was shot.
