  • District 1: Gloria Molina, Democrat
 decided Tuesday to give restaurants who get low grades on their health inspections a speedy second chance. Restaurants will be able to pay between $100 and $120 to schedule a quick reinspection.

However, the restaurants also will face a surprise checkup after the scheduled reinspection. If they get a low grade on the surprise inspection there is no second chance until their next regular checkup months later.

Man shoots woman in Burbank robbery

BURBANK - A woman was shot in her apartment complex Tuesday after resisting an attempt by armed robbers to drag her to her room, police said.

The woman was treated at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center is a hospital in Burbank, California, USA. The hospital has 455 beds, and is part of Providence Health & Services. It's adress is: 501 S. Buena Vista St., Burbank, CA 91505.  in Burbank for a superficial gunshot wound, officials said. Police did not release the woman's identity out of concern for her safety.

Flesh-eating disease patient improving

An Encino resident stricken by a flesh-killing form of bacteria was expected to recover fully after another round of surgery Tuesday.

Lawrence Roberts could leave the hospital within the next week, said Peter H. Grossman, who led the team that operated on Roberts on Tuesday at the Grossman Burn Center at Sherman Oaks Hospital Sherman Oaks Hopital (SOH) is an 153 bed acute care facility in Sherman Oaks, California, USA and is home of world renowned the Grossman Burn Center. SOH is owned and operated by Prime Healthcare Services, Inc.  and Health Center.

Roberts went to the hospital Saturday with a swollen right foot. Doctors diagnosed him with necrotizing fasciitis, which quickly destroys living tissue.

Officials announce cheese-item recall

BALDWIN PARK - The state Department of Food and Agriculture announced Tuesday a recall of eight cheese products produced by the Tutto Latte company of Baldwin Park, due to the discovery of Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.

The bacteria was discovered in a routine sampling taken by the department's Milk and Dairy Foods Control inspectors.

There have been no confirmed illnesses associated with the cheese but affected products should not be consumed, a CDFA CDFA California Department of Food and Agriculture

The whole-milk cheese Tutto Latte products recalled were coded March 16 through March 24: ricotta in 4-pound tub; mozzarella in 3-pound tub; mozzarella oveline in 3-pound tub; mozzarella ciliegine in 3-pound tub; mozzarella bocconcini Bocconcini (singular Bocconcino) are small, semi-soft, white and rindless unripened mild cheeses which originated in Naples and were once made only from the milk of water buffaloes. Now they are usually made from a combination of water buffalo and cow's milk.  in 3-pound tub; mozzarella scarmorze in 1-pound package; mozzarella nodini in 3-pound tub; mozzarella burratta in 4-ounce package.

Slain boy's mother settles LAUSD LAUSD Los Angeles Unified School District (Los Angeles, CA)  suit

The mother of a boy who was shot to death at Reseda High School Reseda High School, established in 1955, is located in the Reseda section of Los Angeles, California, United States.

The current principal of Reseda High is Alfredo Tarin. The mascot of Reseda High is the Regent, a lion welding a crown and a scepter.
 in 1993 settled her lawsuit against the Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population.  on Tuesday. Lawyers said terms of the settlement are confidential.

The suit was filed in February 1994, a year after 17-year-old Michael Ensley was shot and killed after an on-campus altercation with another student. Margaret Ensley claimed the district should have offered tighter security.

After the shooting, Ensley formed Mothers Against Violence in Schools, which offers scholarships to students and lobbies lawmakers to take steps to take action; to move in a matter.

The lawsuit was settled on the second day of the trial, lawyers said. Ensley said the recent schoolyard slayings of four students and one teacher in Arkansas was fresh in her mind after Monday's proceedings.

``When I came home, I had the most horrible experience, reliving that nightmare again,'' she said.

President Clinton nominated Nora M. Manella, a U.S. attorney in Los Angeles who lives in Studio City, to the U.S. district court for central California. Manella previously was a municipal court and superior court judge.

Wounded vendor expected to survive

A street vendor shot in the head while selling food on the streets of North Hills last week was hospitalized in stable condition and expected to live after undergoing surgery, police said Tuesday.

Rogelio Ramirez, 31, of North Hills was pushing his cart filled with barbecued corn and other snacks along the 8900 block of Burnet burnet, hardy perennial herb of the family Rosaceae (rose) found in temperate regions, usually with white or greenish flowers. The European species are sometimes cultivated for the leaves, which are used in salads, for flavoring, and formerly as a poultice to stop  Avenue about 6:30 p.m. Friday when two men walked up and shot him in the head, said Detective Marshall White of the LAPD's Devonshire Division.

The two men then walked about 25 feet down the street and fatally shot a second victim in the upper torso. That victim was identified as Clarence Coats, 34, of Van Nuys, White said. Coats was pronounced dead at the scene.
