LOS ANGELES Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  - Los Angeles County supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to support efforts of the Southwest Defense Alliance in promoting Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. The alliance's goal is to draw in more work to such bases as the Navy's Point Mugu, the China Lake Naval Weapons Center in Ridgecrest and Edwards and to fight off attempts to reduce or close the bases.

Myers new deputy director at Dryden

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE - Larry Myers has been named deputy director of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Dryden Flight Research Center The Dryden Flight Research Center (DFRC), located inside Edwards Air Force Base, is an aeronautical research center operated by NASA. On March 26, 1976 it was named in honor of the late Hugh L. .

Myers will be responsible for flight safety, systems safety and aircraft quality assurance at Dryden. He also will be responsible for implementing the center's institutional safety, industrial hygiene and environmental programs.

Prior to this appointment, Myers was the group leader of the Flight Assurance Office at Dryden, where he was responsible for developing and administering a comprehensive program to ensure quality, system safety and reliability of research aircraft.

Palmdale appoints city ombudswoman om·buds·wom·an

A woman who investigates complaints and mediates fair especially settlements between aggrieved parties such as consumers or students and an institution or organization.
 

PALMDALE - Cathryn Lesperance has been named the city's ombudswoman to assist businesses with permits and other city government issues.

Lesperance will serve as the key contact to help business owners through the permit and development processes, answering questions about city ordinances and policies affecting them and providing referrals for business financing through the Small Business Administration and local banks.

Lesperance joined the city of Palmdale in 1991 and worked in the Planning Department, the City Clerk's Office, and the housing division of the Economic Development Department.

Stadium induction set for new Lions

LANCASTER - New Lions Club members will be inducted at 6:45 p.m. Saturday at Lancaster Municipal Stadium, prior to the JetHawks game, to become part of the world's largest service club.

Charles Montgomery, the club's district governor, will lead the ceremony. District 4-L1 is made up of more than 50 clubs from Los Angeles to Nevada to Mojave, including Lancaster, Palmdale, Acton and Littlerock.

Lions number more than 1.4 million in 43,000 clubs in 185 countries.

The Lions' Eye Mobile will be available outside the stadium for free vision screenings, and the public is encouraged to bring in their used eyeglasses eyeglasses or spectacles, instrument or device for aiding and correcting defective sight. Neighbors credited in drug lab bust

LANCASTER - Alert neighbors led sheriff's deputies to an illicit drug illicit drug Street drug, see there  lab housed in a second-story apartment, sheriff's officials said.

Deputies were called to an apartment complex at the 3100 block of West Avenue K-4 shortly after 3 p.m. Monday after neighbors reported a chemical odor emitting from an upstairs unit.

Inside the apartment, deputies found glassware, equipment and some chemicals used to manufacture methamphetamine.

``They had cooked earlier that morning,'' said Deputy Vince Carter. ``The informant smelled the odors about 8 a.m.''

One person believed to be involved in the drug lab was seen walking away from the apartment carrying a garbage bag and heading toward a Dumpster as deputies arrived. He later climbed over a fence and fled.

Man held on Florida warrant for assault

JUNIPER HILLS - A man wanted in Florida on suspicion of assault on a peace officer was found hiding on his mother's property Tuesday afternoon, sheriff's officials said.

Loren Thomas Krytzer, 34, was arrested by deputies from Palmdale's Youth Crime Taskforce and the County Crime Taskforce near Tumbleweed tumbleweed, any of several plants, particularly abundant in prairie and steppe regions, that commonly break from their roots at maturity and, drying into a rounded tangle of light, stiff branches, roll before the wind, covering long distances and scattering seed as  Road and Devil's Punch Bowl

Florida officials issued a warrant for Krytzer's arrest March 27 and notified local authorities that he might be at his mother's home.

Krytzer was being held at the Lancaster sheriff's station in lieu of $100,000 bail on suspicion of probation violation and possession of methamphetamine.
