BRIEFLY : STUDENTS MIGHT GET FUNDING FOR EXAMS.


THOUSAND OAKS Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  - As many as 200 Latino students from Thousand Oaks High School Thousand Oaks High School is a high school established in 1962 and located in Thousand Oaks, California. It is a California Distinguished School, and offers curriculum at all levels for Thousand Oaks students. The mascot is the lancer.  could be given cash scholarships to help cover the costs of expensive college entrance exams and tutoring through a new school grant.

The high school recently was awarded a $2,750 grant from the Hispanic Legacy Fund, which will be used to help students pay for Advanced Placement exams


    Advanced Placement examinations are taken each May by students at participating Canadian, American, and international educational institutions. The tests are the culmination of year-long AP courses.
    , Scholastic Assessment Tests and Achievement Tests.

    The tests are often used by colleges to determine admissions. However, some students are unable to take the exams because they are costly, school officials said.

    Officials said the funds could be shared by as many as 200 students.

    THOUSAND OAKS - Ice skaters will have a chance to slide across the ice this winter in Thousand Oaks following final City Council approval of a temporary outdoor ice skating rink.

    To be set up under the oaks on the grounds of the Civic Arts Plaza, ``A Wonderland on Ice'' is being organized by Alliance for the Arts, which hopes to raise funds from the ice skating venture to benefit local arts programs for schoolchildren schoolchildren school nplécoliers mpl;

    The City Council on Tuesday waived the $4,500 fee usually charged to groups using the facility, allowing the sponsors to move forward with plans for setting up the winter rink.
