BRIEFLY : SORORITIES ALUMNAE AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS.


Three high school students and a college student have each won a $500 scholarship from the Glendale-Burbank Area group of alumnae of national Panhellenic sororities.

The alumnae group promotes Panhellenic sororities on university campuses in addition to awarding annual scholarships women who are college-bound women or already in college and members of sororities.

The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement and contributions to school and community.

$5 million upgrade done at Hilton hotel

BURBANK - A $5 million refurbishment has been completed at the Hilton Burbank Airport & Convention Center.

The nine-month renovation included the addition of a restaurant and a car rental desk, and new communications systems and in-room technology features were installed, said Joseph Kruvi, general manager of the 83 suites and 403 other rooms.

Bathrooms were renovated, and the hotel was furnished with new beds, carpeting, lights and decorative features.

The Hilton at Burbank Airport offers 403 guest rooms and 83 renovated suites. Rooms are equipped with voice mail and data ports. The hotel has designated 80 percent of its rooms for nonsmokers.

The hotel also has two fitness centers and two swimming pools, as well as a business center with copying, fax and other services.

The hotel at 2500 N. Hollywood Way is owned by Strategic Hotel Capital Inc. and managed by Hilton Hotels Corp.

P.R. class offered at Glendale College

GLENDALE - Glendale Community College Glendale Community College can refer to one of two colleges in the United States.

 will offer a course this fall on public-relations techniques, including methods for cyberspace.

Phone registration is in progress for the semester, which will start Aug. 17 and end Dec. 17. The course, Mass Communications 120 Ticket 8272, is based on the book ``Walking the High Wire: Effective Public Relation'' by Merry Shelburne, a GCC GCC: see Gulf Cooperation Council.

Children suspected in $60,000 blaze

GLENDALE - A fire believed to have been started by children caused about $60,000 damage to a garage and its contents on Cordova Cordova, Spain: see Córdoba.  Avenue on Tuesday.
