The Environmental Coalition said Judge Thomas Hutchins Thomas Hutchins (1730 – April 28, 1789) was a Military Engineer, Cartographer, Geographer and Surveyor.

Hutchins was Geographer of the United States (see Department of the Geographer to the Army, 1777-1783) from 1781.
 ruled that attorney Richard Francis Richard Francis (dates unknown) was a famous English cricketer who played for the Hambledon Club.

Francis is known to have been a Surrey man by birth and he had played for Surrey teams before moving to Hampshire. He made 47 known first-class appearances from 1773 until 1793.

Grant-getting help offered at workshop

THOUSAND OAKS - A workshop to help nonprofit groups write grant applications will offered from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday at the East County Sheriff's Station, 2101 E. Olsen Road.

 Associates, a consulting firm specializing in fund developments for nonprofit organizations, will teach the course. Richardson will discuss government, corporate and foundation grants; using the Internet to identify funding sources; preparing a proposal; and grant research strategies.

The first 75 participants will receive free computer software with more than 800 grant-writing bookmarks, including links to foundations, government agencies and research sites. For information, call Melody Rafelson at (805) 373-2564.

Local organizations to be awarded funds

VENTURA - Four nonprofit organizations will receive grants tonight during a dinner hosted by the Ventura County Bar Association.

The Conejo Valley and Simi Valley Free clinics will each get $432 from the group's Legal Services legal services n. the work performed by a lawyer for a client.  Fund.

Additionally, $1,000 will go to the bar association's pro bono Short for pro bono publico [Latin, For the public good]. The designation given to the free legal work done by an attorney for indigent clients and religious, charitable, and other nonprofit entities.  program, in which experienced family law attorneys donate time to represent those unable to pay legal fees.

Channel Counties Legal Services Association, previously known as Legal Aid, also will receive a $1,000 grant. It is the county's largest provider of legal services to the poor.

Assembly candidate to hold office opening
