BRIEFLY : SIMI APPROVES DEAL FOR ANIMAL CONTROL.

SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - One year after Simi Valley threatened to end its contract with Ventura County Animal Regulation, the City Council has approved a $398,600 yearlong agreement with the agency that licenses dogs, operates the city shelter and provides other pet-related services.

City officials hope that through the county's door-to-door dog licensing program and proposed operational changes that the county will be able to provide improved animal regulation services at lower costs to the city.

The city collects $162,000 from licensing and other fees and provides $236,000 from the general fund to pay for the county department. Last year, the city voted for, then rescinded, a plan to cancel the agreement, believing it could find cheaper services through another agency.
