Tuesday night's 5-0 vote boosts starting teacher salaries to $32,640 and high-end experienced teachers to $58,889, effective with the start of the new school year.

Officials said 3.5 percent of the pay raise will come from general fund revenues, while the remaining 4.5 percent will come from a surplus in the Employee Health and Welfare Fund.

Bicyclist on freeway hit by car, hurt badly

OXNARD - A 52-year-old Oxnard man was critically injured when he was hit by a car as he tried to cross the Ventura Freeway The Ventura Freeway is a freeway in southern California running from Ventura to Pasadena. It is the principal east-west route through Ventura County and in the southern San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County.  on his bicycle, officials said Wednesday.

 bridge about 6:55 p.m. Tuesday when he was hit by a northbound Nissan Sentra driven by Maricela Reyes, 21, of Oxnard, police said. Reyes told police she saw the bicyclist and slowed down, but she could not avoid hitting him.

Montejano was taken to Ventura County Medical Center Ventura County Medical Center is a hospital in the city of Ventura, California, USA. It is a 208 bed acute care hospital. The county also operates a 49 bed campus in Santa Paula. , suffering from facial and leg injuries. Officials said they expect him to be charged with bicycling under the influence of alcohol.

In a separate incident at Pleasant Valley and Saviers roads, 31-year-old bicyclist Antonio Montejano of Oxnard was seriously injured when he was hit by a southbound south·bound
