 - A 28-year-old San Fernando man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in the shooting death of another man during a garage pool game, police said Wednesday.

Steven Gallegos surrendered to police around 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, about 12 hours after the victim, Riley Odell, 28, of San Fernando, was found dead in the garage behind a home in the 1900 block of Seventh Street.

Police said Gallegos shot Odell Monday night with a shotgun, while a group of people were gathered in the garage. The motive for the shooting was not known, but police said the crime may have stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the two men.

Gallegos is being held without bail, officials said.

Ex-Rebuild L.A. head on reform panel

Former Rebuild L.A. chairwoman Linda Griego was among three people appointed Wednesday to the City Council's advisory commission on charter reform, officials said.

Griego was appointed by Councilman Mike Hernandez, while Councilman Richard Alatorre Richard Alatorre is a politician, and a member of the Democratic Party. Alatorre has served as a member of the Los Angeles City Council. He was the first Latino to serve on the council in 23 years.  appointed Southern California Edison Southern California Edison (or SCE Corp), the largest subsidiary of Edison International (NYSE: EIX), is the primary electricity supply company for much of Southern California. The appointments bring to 15 the number of appointments made to the 21-person commission. Mayor Richard Riordan Richard J. Riordan (born May 1, 1930) is a Republican politician from California, U.S. who served as the California Secretary of Education from 2003–2005 and as Mayor of Los Angeles from 1993–2001. Riordan ran for Governor of California unsuccessfully in 2002.  has not decided yet whether to make appointments. He is pursuing an initiative to create a separate, elected Charter Reform Commission with power to submit reforms directly to the voters.

Landlords warned to pay utility bills

Moving to hold Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  landlords accountable for their master-metered apartment buildings, the Department of Water and Power sent out 12,000 delinquency notices Wednesday, warning that utility service will be discontinued if bills are not paid by Nov. 1.

Store gives $3,000 to cultural center

WOODLAND HILLS - Bristol Farms Bristol Farms is a grocery store chain that markets itself as being "upscale", with thirteen stores located mainly in the Southern California market. Formerly a subsidiary of Albertsons, Bristol Farms is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Supervalu, Inc.  donated $3,000 this week to the Valley Cultural Center for the nonprofit group's community programs.

Part of the proceeds came from ticket sales for Bristol Farms' dinner-dance and casino night Saturday that drew more than 300 people, who tasted foods from several different countries in a simulated cruise ship setting, officials of the grocery store said.

The Valley Cultural Center hosts concerts in the park from June to September every year. The center also encourages incorporating music into children's lives and hires quintets and quartets to perform at local schools. The center also sponsors field trips for students to attend symphony rehearsals at Cal State Northridge and Pierce College.
