ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST The Angeles National Forest (ANF) was established by executive order on December 20, 1892 as the San Gabriel Timberland Reserve. The popular dolls were donated to the organization by a Canadian woman and her two daughters to aid the refuge's work with wild and exotic animals.

Tickle Me Elmos usually retail for $30 or less, but since they're so popular they have become hard to obtain at any price.

The dolls were intended as Christmas presents for the two girls, but the family decided to donate them after watching a television program about the refuge from their home in Calgary.

The Wildlife Waystation is a refuge for more than 1,000 animals in the Angeles National Forest.

Two gunmen opened fire on a man using a public telephone in Highland Park Highland Park.

The deadly attack was the result of gang fighting in the area, said police spokesman Eduardo Funes.

Funes said the gunmen approached Jose Quesada, 22, at about 9 p.m. Saturday as he was using a phone in the 5700 block of Aldama Street. As the gunmen started shooting, Quesada tried to run into a nearby market that was just closing, Funes said. The gunmen continued to shoot at him as he reached the front door.

Quesada was shot several times and collapsed in the market's doorway, Funes said. Another man, identified as Raymond Argueta, 42, who was in the process of locking the door, also was hit by gunfire.
