Statewide, there were 16 traffic fatalities in the 60 hours from 6 p.m. Christmas Eve to 6 a.m. Sunday, said California Highway Patrol Officer Wendy Moore. That number was up from 14 deaths for the comparable period a year ago.

Man pulled off bike, robbed by 5 suspects

SIMI VALLEY - A Simi Valley man was attacked and beaten early Sunday while riding his bicycle.

Shortly after 2 a.m., the 19-year-old man was riding his bicycle near the pond in Rancho Simi Park when five people blocked his path, according to the Simi Valley Police Department The Simi Valley Police Department (SVPD) is the police department of the city of Simi Valley, California. The department currently has over 120 sworn officers, and more than 65 support personnel[1]. The department has a patrol area that covers over 39 square miles. .

The five dragged the man off his bicycle and beat him with their hands and feet, he told police. They then took his wallet, removed all his clothing except his T-shirt and threw his bicycle into the pond, police said.

The man went to a nearby convenience store and called for help.

He suffered a concussion and cuts and bruises to his face, police said. No additional information about the suspects was available.

Tot almost drowns in backyard pool

RESEDA - An 18-month-old boy nearly drowned Sunday when he wandered unattended into the back yard of his home and fell into the pool, fire officials said.

The incident occurred about 12:40 p.m. at a house in the 7700 block of Jamieson Avenue.
