BRIEFLY : RIDING TEACHER GETS JAIL FOR HORSE ABUSE.


VENTURA - The former operator of a children's riding program was sentenced Tuesday to 60 days in jail for horse abuse, even as she vowed to continue attempts to withdraw her guilty plea.

Rene L. Ferguson, 28, of Tarzana also will be on probation probation, method by which the punishment of a convicted offender is conditionally suspended. The offender must remain in the community and under the supervision of a probation officer, who is usually a court-appointed official.  for five years, and she was ordered to pay $12,618 in restitution In the context of Criminal Law, state programs under which an offender is required, as a condition of his or her sentence, to repay money or donate services to the victim or society; with respect to maritime law, the restoration of articles lost by jettison, done when the  and to stay away from animals.

Ferguson, who once ran the Tiny Tots Riding Program in Ventura, pleaded guilty in February to one charge of animal neglect after four years of delays in her case. She later tried to withdraw her plea, claiming it had been coerced, but a judge refused to let her.

Building searched after bomb threat

VENTURA - Deputies searched the Hall of Administration building Tuesday and cordoned off a parking lot after Ventura County workers found a cell phone flashing with a bomb threat message.

There were no explosives found in the phone or elsewhere in the building, officials said.
