The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy is an agency of the state of California in the United States founded in 1979 and dedicated to the acquisition of land in the Santa Susana and Santa Monica Mountains and the Simi Hills, north and west of Los Angeles, for preservation as open  Advisory Council will be expanded to include representatives of Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena and La Canada Flintridge under legislation signed into law by Gov. Gray Davis.

Agoura Hills, Westlake Village, Malibu and Calabasas also will be able to appoint their own representatives. In all, the advisory committee will be expanded from 17 to 23 members. The members will be appointed by the city councils from each city.

In the 1980s the jurisdiction of the conservancy was expanded to include the Rim of the Valley Trail Corridor in the foothills, canyons and mountains near Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena and La Canada Flintridge.

Health tests on tap at Glendale facility

GLENDALE - Free health screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and bone density will be held today at Foothill Family Medical Associates.

The free screenings will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center, located at 1818 Verdugo Blvd., Suite 204 in Glendale.

The bone density test is by appointment only and is limited to the first 30 callers.

BURBANK - The Burbank Park and Recreation Department is seeking donated or loaned nature items and collections for the educational display at the Stough Canyon Nature Center.

Items to be considered for use in the exhibit may include artifacts related to American Indians American Indians: see Americas, antiquity and prehistory of the; Natives, Middle American; Natives, North American; Natives, South American. , animals, reptiles, birds and insects indigenous to the area or the Verdugo Mountains The Verdugo Mountains are a small mountain range located just south of the western San Gabriel Mountains in Los Angeles County, Southern California, The United States of America (USA). The range is commonly known simply as the Verdugos. .
