Water carnival set for Burbank park

BURBANK - The Burbank Park and Recreation Department will host a water carnival for tots on Aug. 20 at McCambridge Park.

At a cost of $3 a tot, the carnival will feature games, crafts and treats for children ages 2 to 6. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Lip-reading course offered in Glendale

GLENDALE - A free lip-reading course is being offered this fall by the Glendale Community College Glendale Community College can refer to one of two colleges in the United States.

 Lifelong Learning Lifelong learning is the concept that "It's never too soon or too late for learning", a philosophy that has taken root in a whole host of different organisations. Lifelong learning is attitudinal; that one can and should be open to new ideas, decisions, skills or behaviors.  Seminars program.

The instructor, speech pathologist and associate professor Ted Levatter, is a veteran voice-over specialist for film and television. He has been teaching lip reading lip reading, method by which the deaf are able to read the speech of others from the movements of the lips and mouth. It is sometimes referred to as speech reading, which technically also includes the reading of facial expressions and body language.  since 1982. He also teaches public speaking and voice diction.

The course is designed to improve comprehension of daily oral communication for those with hearing loss. It meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Glendale Adult Recreation Center, 201 E. Colorado Blvd.

Class meetings begin Aug. 17, and students can register at class.

 has won approval to charter a Mu Alpha Theta Mu Alpha Theta (ΜΑΘ = math) is a United States mathematics honor society for high schools and two-year colleges. It has over 75,000 student members in more than 1,500 schools worldwide.  club, the international high school and junior and community college mathematics club, school officials said.

The club will be named in honor of Suegene Kim, an honors math student and La Canada resident who died in a car crash in the summer of 1998, said Gail Dearing, chairwoman of the mathematics department at the academy.

``Suegene was a talented mathematician, and it's fitting that our honors math club will be named after her,'' Dearing said.
