Still, Schmidt faces a maximum sentence of 43 years in prison if convicted on each of the 21 counts, said Deputy District Attorney Lisa Frawley.

The 19-year-old Schmidt was 17 when the five attacks occurred between September and November 1996. The defendant earlier was ordered to stand trial as an adult because of the serious nature of the crimes.

Simi official elected to Metrolink post

Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  City Councilman Bill Davis was elected vice chairman of the Southern California Regional Rail Authority board on Friday.

Davis is a charter member of the board that oversees operations of the Metrolink commuter rail service, which began in 1992. Davis, a retired auto industry executive, also is president of the Ventura County Transportation Commission.

Alex Clifford, a Riverside city councilman, also was elected president of the board.

The rail authority is a five-county joint powers authority A Joint Powers Authority (JPA) is an institution permitted under the laws of some states of the USA, whereby two or more public authorities (e.g. local governments, or utility or transport districts) can operate collectively. . Metrolink operates 106 daily commuter trains, serving 46 stations and 416 miles of track. More than 26,000 passengers ride Metrolink on average each day.
