GLENDALE - The Glendale Public Library The Glendale Public Library is located in Glendale, California, and serves a diverse community of over 200,000 people. GPL has a total of 6 branches (a 7th branch is slated to open in 2007) in addition to the large Central Library, including the unique Brand Library and Art Center.  has received a donation of the original minutes and correspondence, yearbooks, awards, event programs and photographs of the 100-year-old Tuesday Afternoon Club of Glendale.

The women's club Women’s clubs first arose in the United States during the post-civil war period. As a result of increased leisure time due to modern household advances, middle class women had more time to engage in intellectual pursuits.  recently disbanded. The donation contains primary historical information about Glendale and will be housed in the library Special Collection Room, 222 E. Harvard St.

The club played a role in forming the first public library services in Glendale in 1907 and the minutes contain information about that, as well as the club's other civic and charitable activities.

The feature-length documentary, ``The Witnesses,'' is being made by the Armenian Film Foundation, which has been acquiring footage in interviews of more than 300 people. Foundation officials hope to finish the film by 2000.

Volunteers to clean Glendale on May 15

GLENDALE - The city's largest volunteer community cleanup is scheduled for May 15.

Participants in the 11th annual Great Graffiti Paint-Out and Community Clean-Up Day will meet in Parcher Plaza, where they will be assigned to teams supervised by city workers. After the cleanup, volunteers will return to City Hall for a barbecue lunch. Each person preregistered will receive a commemorative T-shirt.

The annual event is sponsored by the city, the Glendale Clean Committee and the Glendale Association of Realtors. Participants are encouraged to preregister pre·reg·is·ter

Alex Theater books `Sunset Boulevard'

GLENDALE - Billy Wilder's ``Sunset Boulevard'' will be screened at the Alex Theater in two special showings Saturday.

At the 8 p.m. screening, KNX-AM (1070) entertainment editor Tom Hatten will interview actress Nancy Olson. The film will also be shown at 2 p.m. in a program including a classic ``Popeye'' cartoon and newsreel footage featuring the stars of ``Sunset Boulevard Sunset Boulevard is a street in the western part of Los Angeles County, California, that stretches from Figueroa Street in downtown Los Angeles to the Pacific Coast Highway at the Pacific Ocean in the Pacific Palisades. .''

The classic film stars Gloria Swanson as Norma Desmond, a silent-film diva whom time has passed by.
