offers assistance to buyers of homes

SIMI VALLEY - City officials have announced a First Time Homebuyer home·buy·er

Program in conjunction with the Ventura County Regional Mortgage Credit Certificate Program.

The program assists eligible low- and moderate-income individuals in purchasing their first home in Simi Valley by providing them with a federal income tax credit of up to 15 percent of the annual interest paid on their home mortgage. The tax credit is subtracted directly from the homeowner's federal tax liability. As a result, the buyer's net income after taxes is increased, thereby making it possible for applicants to qualify for mortgage loans.

The program is available to individuals whose gross annual household income does not exceed: $61,000 for a total household of one or two individuals; or $70,265 for a total household of three or more people.

Single-family homes, condominiums or town houses in Simi Valley purchased at $203,865 (for previously occupied units) or $222,527 (for new units) may qualify for the mortgages. For more information, call associate planner Paul Drury at (805) 583-6307.
