Head-on crash kills teen-ager in Malibu

Pacoima, Sun Valley libraries to be rebuilt

A city panel on Tuesday recommended spending $600,000 to demolish and rebuild larger libraries in Pacoima and Sun Valley.

The City Council's Community and Economic Development Committee said the money would be enough to start developing plans for the two facilities as the total $3 million for each library is sought from other sources.

Plans call for building 10,500-square-foot libraries at each location.

Studio City shopping center gets zone OK

The Los Angeles City Council approved a zone change Tuesday to allow construction of a shopping center on the site of the Racquet Centre at Ventura Boulevard and Vineland Avenue in Studio City.

Some neighbors of the project at 10901 Ventura Blvd. have complained that it is too large and will worsen traffic in the area. In response, the council voted to require developer Tom Von Der Ahe to improve the intersection to allow for another lane for vehicles turning onto the project site and for the traffic light to include a left-turn arrow.
