 faces more heat on subway funding

The MTA faces more grilling on its subway spending plans as the California Transportation Commission holds a hearing today on 13 Southern California counties' transportation funding blueprints for the next six years.

CTC CTC - Cornell Theory Center  officials said they plan to press the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to dip into nearly $400 million in funds committed to three temporarily mothballed rail projects, rather than ask the state to put up additional money to finish the Red Line subway to North Hollywood.

The MTA and 12 other counties are presenting their 1998 State Transportation Improvement Program plans, which the CTC must either accept or reject under recent legislation.

Student passes crisis from hazing injuries

 campus police continued investigating whether a hazing incident injured three fraternity pledges, one student's condition was upgraded from critical to fair, officials said Monday.

UCLA freshman Marshall Lai, 18, was taken out of the intensive care unit and his condition was declared upgraded at UCLA Medical Center UCLA Medical Center is a hospital located on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California. It is rated as one of the top three hospitals in the United States and is the top hospital on the West Coast according to US News & World Report.  Sunday night, said Linda Steiner-Lee, a hospital spokeswoman.
