BRIEFLY : POLICE CONNECT MAN TO BURBANK KILLING.


A 45-year-old transient from Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  was in jail Friday after he was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of an 81-year-old Burbank man.

Duane David Tate David Tate (born November 22, 1964 in Denver, Colorado) was an American football defensive back in the NFL for the Chicago Bears (1988-92), New York Giants (1993) and Indianapolis Colts (1994-97). , who police arrested Thursday in Los Angeles, was being held without bail at Men's Central Jail in Monday's beating death of Carl Foyer in the 600 block of North Reese Place in Burbank.

Tate is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Burbank Municipal Court. Burbank police have not released a motive in the slaying, but said Foyer's car, wallet and other personal items were missing from his residence.

Panel backs arming downtown guards

Whitewater figure may stay in L.A. jail

Whitewater witness Susan McDougal's jail stint in Los Angeles for contempt might not end next month as she had hoped.

Michael Emmick, an associate in Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr's office, wrote McDougal last month warning that she could face additional prosecution if she continues to refuse to testify before the grand jury investigating President Clinton.

But Emmick, who left the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles about six months ago to join Starr's team, offered McDougal the option of testifying by videotape - away from the grand jury.
