Alatorre pledges MTA funding action

A long-delayed deal to send $200 million in city money to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority for subway construction in North Hollywood and elsewhere will go before the full City Council on Tuesday, Councilman Richard Alatorre Richard Alatorre is a politician, and a member of the Democratic Party. Alatorre has served as a member of the Los Angeles City Council. He was the first Latino to serve on the council in 23 years.  said.

The money has been bottled up in the council's Transportation Committee for months. But on Tuesday Alatorre took up the measure in his Budget and Finance Committee and vowed afterward to clear up last-minute concerns in a special committee meeting on Friday before sending the measure to the full council.

Councilman Nate Holden Nathaniel "Nate" R. Holden (1929-) served on the Los Angeles City Council from 1987 to 2002. He previously served a term on the California State Senate and was Assistant Chief Deputy to then Los Angeles County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn. , chairman of the council's Transportation Committee, had bottled up the measure in his committee because he wanted assurances that the Mid-City portion, which is in his district, would indeed be built.

Woman's body found in car trunk

WINNETKA - The body of a 59-year-old woman, who had been reported missing, was found Tuesday in the trunk of her car in the 19400 block of Valerio Street, Los Angeles Police Department officials said.

The discovery was made about 5 p.m. by a friend of the woman, said Officer Vincent Aguirre. The friend found the car, noticed a foul odor coming from inside and called police, he said.The victim's name was not released.

Sgt. Jeri Weinstein of the LAPD's West Valley station said detectives were investigating late Tuesday. No further information was available.

L.A. Cellular tower debate put on hold

The city Board of Zoning Appeals delayed for nearly three more months Tuesday a ruling on L.A. Cellular's proposal to erect a transmission antenna amid a cluster of homes and small businesses in Chatsworth.

At the request of L.A. Cellular, the board agreed to revisit the matter Nov. 5 to give the company more time to seek an alternative site acceptable to neighborhood leaders who are challenging the company's original proposal.

The board also directed the company to document in writing the sites its considers and its reasons for ruling out the locations.
