Milk prices to rise 41 cents a gallon

Milk prices are scheduled to rise 41 cents a gallon Friday, drawing protests Tuesday from a Los Angeles official and a statewide organization seeking to repeal state regulations keeping the price high.

Audrie Krause of the group Mad About Milk said the state Food and Agriculture Department has approved the increase because climate problems in the rest of the country have reduced milk production.

Wachs and Krause urged the public to write officials to seek a change in state law that would allow milk produced in other parts of the country to be sold here.
