SANTA CLARITA - A man wearing jail-issue pants ended up behind bars Sunday after a convenience store owner called police to report a possible escapee escapee A popular term for older relatives of those at risk for Huntington's disease, who didn't develop the disease. See Huntington's disease. .

It turned out that Jose Gonzales, 22, of Pico Rivera was not a fugitive, but he had four outstanding traffic warrants, said Lt. Daniel Castillo of the Los Angeles County sheriff's Santa Clarita station.

Gonzales went into the Castaic store about 3:15 p.m., clad in blue pants stamped with ``Los Angeles County Jail,'' Castillo said.

Gonzales took off in a van, but authorities pulled him over on the Golden State Freeway The Golden State Freeway is a north-south freeway running through Kern County and Los Angeles County, California. Originally built as U.S. Highway 99, it was re-signed as Interstate 5 in 1964.  south of Lake Hughes Road and arrested him, Castillo said.

Gonzales told authorities he found the pants in the clean laundry at home.

Coroner identifies man killed by truck

A man killed when a trash truck backed over him at a Sylmar landfill was identified Sunday as Joe Madrigal madrigal, name for two different forms of Italian music, one related to the poetic madrigal in the 14th cent., the other the most common form of secular vocal music in the 16th cent. , 24, of Valencia, coroner's officials said.

Madrigal, a worker at Sunshine Canyon Landfill, was guiding drivers at the dump site when he was caught under the rear tires of a truck and dragged about 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

L.A. area still leader in smog

Houston, we have the problem.

Texas officials fumed last week after news reports that Houston had recorded the nation's worst smog day this year, just edging out a San Bernardino County mountain town east of Los Angeles.
