BRIEFLY : PEDESTRIAN DIES AFTER BEING HIT.


BURBANK - An 83-year-old Burbank woman died Sunday after she was hit by a pickup truck in the intersection of Angeleno and Sixth streets, police said.

 said Maria Guillana was walking in the unmarked crosswalk area at 8:42 a.m. Sunday when she was hit by a pickup truck driven by a 23-year-old Burbank woman. Guillana was taken to County-USC Medical Center, where she died several hours later.

``The driver of the pickup truck was blinded by the sun and apparently did not see the pedestrian,'' Giles said.

The driver was not arrested, Giles said. He said the investigation is continuing.

Robbers kill man, wound co-worker

NEWHALL - Masked gunmen fatally shot one employee and wounded another during a robbery at a Newhall market, a sheriff's deputy said Sunday.

Manager mugged outside restaurant

VALENCIA - The manager of a Wendy's in Valencia was robbed Sunday on his way to take money from the restaurant to the bank, a sheriff's lieutenant said.

The crime happened about 1:30 p.m. in the restaurant parking lot at 27544 The Old Road, said sheriff's Lt. Bill Weiss Bill Weiss is a baseball historian and statistician. He has served as the official statistician for the Pacific Coast League, and edited a weekly newsletter for the California League for over thirty years. .

A man wearing a ski mask knocked the manager to the ground, grabbed the bank bag and escaped, Weiss said.

No suspects have been arrested, Weiss said.
