Wounded boy won't help in shooter hunt

Los Angeles police officers and detectives searched for a teen-ager who allegedly shot his 12-year-old friend in the right shoulder Sunday afternoon at the younger boy's Van Nuys apartment.

The injured boy, who suffered a ``through-and-through'' wound, was taken by paramedics to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, where he is in stable condition, authorities said.

Los Angeles police spokesman Officer Jason Lee said the younger boy is refusing to help detectives find his friend, a boy between 14 and 16 who ran from the home with the gun following the 3:30 p.m. shooting in the 7000 block of North Woodley Avenue.

``We're not ruling anything out,'' Lee said. ``It could be accidental, it could be assault with a deadly weapon Assault with a Deadly Weapon is the term used to describe the act of threatening to harm one or more people by using a weapon (usually a firearm). Here, assault must be differentiated from battery as they are often confused. Assault is threatening to use force. .''

Lee said investigators do not know the older boy's name. The name of the wounded boy is being withheld because he is a juvenile.
