BRIEFLY : OXNARD MAN DIES AFTER HOME ATTACK.


OXNARD - A 22-year-old man has died from injuries suffered Saturday during an attack at his home in the 5400 block of Cypress Road, authorities said Wednesday.

The county coroner was scheduled to conduct an autopsy Wednesday on Raymond Sanchez, who died at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ventura County Medical Center Ventura County Medical Center is a hospital in the city of Ventura, California, USA. It is a 208 bed acute care hospital. The county also operates a 49 bed campus in Santa Paula. , officials said. He is survived by a wife and a child.

Sanchez was assaulted in what was possibly a gang-related attack by five or six people at 10:50 p.m. Saturday, officials said. No arrests have yet been made.

SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - Four graduating seniors from Royal High School received California PTSA scholarship awards this week, collecting a total of $2,000 to help pay for college.

The students sharing the scholarship award were Anya Zeise, who plans to study criminal justice at Moorpark College Moorpark College is a California-state funded community college located on a 134 acre (542,000 m²) property reclining on a hill in Moorpark, a town in Ventura County, California. ; Jeanette Basil, who will study physical therapy at Utah Valley State College Utah Valley State College or UVSC, is a publicly-funded college located in Orem, Utah.

Although the college has many courses of study, including an increasing number of bachelor's degree programs, it still retains many of its trade and technical school roots.

Grand opening set for postal facilities

SIMI VALLEY - The Postal Service will hold an official grand opening of its Los Angeles Avenue facilities, with tours planned after a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The office has been operating for several weeks, but will be officially dedicated at 10 a.m. A reception and tours will continue until 3 p.m.

The 22,000-square-foot, $76.4 million building houses about 2,000 post office boxes and serves residents in the 93065 ZIP code. It is located at Los Angeles Avenue and Simi SIMI Sea Ice Mechanics Initiative

Elks Lodge to retire old American flags

SIMI VALLEY - To commemorate Flag Day and respectfully dispose of old, worn-out flags, the Simi Valley Elks Lodge will conduct a retirement ceremony at 1 p.m. Sunday.

About 20 old American flags are expected to be laid to rest during the ceremony, but the public is invited to bring along their own flags to be burned at the grave site, complete with headstone. The ceremony will be at the lodge, 1561 Kuehner Drive.

Chili, cars to blend at weekend show

SIMI VALLEY - Gallons of chili made fresh on the spot and show cars polished to a shine are expected to draw hundreds of people Sunday to St. Rose of Lima Saint Rose of Lima, (20 April, 1586 - 24 August, 1617), the first Catholic saint of the Americas, was born in Lima, Peru. Biography

The event, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Knights of Columbus, American Roman Catholic society for men, founded (1882) at New Haven, Conn. (where its headquarters are still located), by Father Michael J. McGivney. , will include chili cooks from all over Ventura County, as well as classic, hot rod and custom cars, entertainment, games and dancing.

The chili-tasting will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., on the church grounds, 1305 Royal Ave. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children and seniors. The car show is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
