BRIEFLY : OFFICERS RESCUE ABANDONED PUPPIES.


Two police officers Sunday rescued eight newborn puppies that had been abandoned on the street and stuffed in a trash bag.

The officers took the mixed-breed, black-and-brown puppies, which looked to be 2 days old, back to the station, Jackson said. Three already had found homes with employees by Sunday evening.

The others were given to Dog Savers, an organization that rescues dogs from shelters and finds them homes.

 inmates suffered minor injuries in a scuffle over telephone use, a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy said Sunday.

The fight occurred at 9 p.m. Saturday. It involved eight inmates quarreling over telephone use, said Deputy Jim Hellmold.

Deputies stopped the fight within minutes, he said.

Woman found dead in Westlake Village

WESTLAKE VILLAGE - A woman was found dead in a home Sunday, under what authorities called suspicious circumstances.

A caller notified the Lost Hills sheriff's station at 4:20 p.m. about the body at the home in the 4300 block of Crownfield Court, Los Angeles County sheriff's Deputy Jim Hellmold said.

Hellmold said the cause of death was under investigation.
