Three high school players made oral commitments over the weekend to play football at Cal State Northridge.

Seaside High of Monterey running back-linebacker Isaac Gardner, Carlsbad linebacker Pieter Keus and Esperanza of Anaheim lineman Jake Ashabraner said they would become Matadors.

Gardner is the younger brother of Northridge freshman defensive lineman Erik Gardner. Isaac was a member of the All-Monterey Bay Tri-County team and was Seaside's Most Valuable Player. He rushed for more than 800 yards, scored 11 touchdowns and made 124 tackles with six sacks his senior year.

``It will be weird and fun playing with my brother,'' Isaac said. ``I like the school and my brother seems to like it, too.''

Keus, 6-foot-1 and 226 pounds, was an honorable mention Avocado League selection and also received the school's coaches award.

Ashabraner, 6-3, 300, was named to the All-Sunset League team.

SOCCER: Goalkeeper Matt Reis, who led UCLA to the 1997 NCAA championship with two shutouts in the Final Four, was drafted by the Galaxy in the third round of the Major League Soccer draft.

NBA: Detroit Pistons officials have discussed replacing Doug Collins as coach, and one source said the move could come as early as Tuesday, The Detroit News reported.

NHL: The Montreal Canadiens acquired Zarley Zalapski and Jonas Hoglund from the Calgary Flames for Valeri Bure and future considerations.

MOTOR SPORTS: Gianpiero Moretti's MOMO Ferrari had the least problems in a trouble-filled race, driving away with a record victory in the Rolex 24-Hours of Daytona.

ALSO: Maurice Greene, the world champion at 100 meters, equaled the world indoor 60-meter record, clocking 6.41 seconds in Stuttgart, Germany. Greene matched the time set by Andre Cason in 1992 at Madrid, Spain. . . . Football great Doak Walker remained in serious condition in Englewood, Colo., from skiing injuries that left him paralyzed. . . . Jim Barber, a former All-Star tackle with the Washington Redskins in the late 1930s and early '40s, died of heart trouble and other complications at age 85 in Spokane, Wash. . . . Anna May Hutchison, a pitcher in the 1940s with the Racine Belles of the All-American Girls' Baseball League who appeared in the 1992 movie ``A League of Their Own,'' died at the age of 73.
