BRIEFLY : NORTH HILLS TO HAVE 1 POLICE COMMAND.

The LAPD announced Thursday it will transfer 50 to 60 staff members and two squad cars from the Van Nuys Division to the Devonshire Division on Jan. 17, placing all of the North Hills community under one command.

Valley Bureau Chief Michael Bostic said the change will provide North Hills, previously split between the two divisions, more unified police service.

Harry Coleman, president of the North Hills Community Coordinating Council, said the change should improve service but is hasty, given that a new police station for the area is under consideration.

Bostic said there are no immediate plans for a new division in the area. ``It may be many years away, and we're dealing with real-life crime problems today,'' he said.
